The state of Texas requires a court referral for ticket dismissal. Your eligibility will be determined by your infraction and your driving history, but generally you will be eligible if:
You have a valid, non-commercial Texas driver’s license
You have not taken a course within the past 12 months
You were cited for a non-criminal minor moving violation
Once you get permission from your court, you may sign up for this course and complete your ticket dismissal lessons. You’ll be responsible for sending in the Certificate of Completion that we’ll mail you after you’ve finished your course.
For further detailed information, please visit our Eligibility Requirements page.
If you haven’t finished your course by your court-assigned due date, don’t panic! Many courts will grant a short extension as long as the student is enrolled and has almost completed their course. Contact your court and ask if they will grant an extension on your defensive driving course.
Remember, though – our course is self-paced, but you still need to make sure you finish by the deadline your court assigns!
You will need to give the court:
Your Completion Certificate that we send to you
A copy of your 3A certified Texas driving record
You can order a copy of your driving record along with your defensive driving course by signing up for the Texas Defensive Driving + Driving Record Combo course.
Generally, you may not also qualify for an insurance discount when attempting to dismiss a traffic ticket. Most insurance carriers require you to take a course specifically for insurance discount purposes. However, we recommend you contact your insurance provider and ask if they will make an exception. If they will, then you will want to order 2 copies of your Certificate of Completion; one for the court, and one for your insurance agency.
Discount rates vary by insurance provider, but generally you can expect to save up to 10% on your rates. Some insurance carriers will even go as high as 15% off your premium!
Your discount will be effective for 3 years.
Yes! Simply take your Texas Insurance Discount course again before your rate reduction expires.
Simply contact your insurance provider to make sure they offer a discount for taking a defensive driving course. If so, you may enroll in your course, and complete it at your leisure. When you’re finished, we’ll send your Completion Certificate right to your door, so you can bring it to your agent and get that rate reduction.
A Texas Seat Belt course is specifically designed for drivers who have been cited for a seat belt violation. Typically, you have been cited because:
You or your front-seat passenger were not wearing a seat belt
A passenger under the age of 17 was riding in the front OR back seat of your vehicle without a seat belt
If your court did not specify whether you were to take a Seat Belt Course, and you are unsure which course to take, please contact your court before signing up for your course.
The Seat Belt Course has more targeted information than a general defensive driving course, including 4 hours covering child passenger safety seat systems and seat belt compliance laws. It’s geared specifically to help you refresh your memory and skills on safety restraints for yourself and your passengers.
We have priced your Seat Belt Course as low as possible, at an affordable $39.95. There are no hidden fees, so that price is all you will have to pay, and includes everything you need to dismiss your seat belt violation.
